Principal Message

Thank you to all our staff for their Herculean efforts this term. Those of us with a few years on the education odometer  can recall no other term like it in terms of the intense level of extra work and support for each other required to get through every day. Covid has challenged us in many ways and the KCC team have really stood up to maintain a high level of continuous learning for our students.

I’d also like to thank our students who have been very cooperative and generally patient with all the restrictions and demands Covid has forced on us. Thank you for the maturity you have shown and the generous spirit you show towards your teachers.

Our parents have been terrific in support of the College this term and we want to thank you too for your patience and trust in the College through challenging times. Many, many families have been impacted by Covid and the way everyone has cooperated with imposed expectations has been inspirational and made every day so much easier.

Today we celebrated an Easter liturgy via Zoom with a wonderful video put together by Ms Savage, Mr Mack, Miss Reardon and the Year 11 Drama class. The link to this is elsewhere in this newsletter, but I do encourage you to take the time to watch it. Many important and relevant messages connected to the Easter story are expressed in this production. Well done!

As the students head off to holidays I reminded the staff and students that Easter is the highpoint of the Catholic Church year and encouraged them to attend one of the Easter services in their local parish  as their expression of appreciation for God’s love in their lives and Jesus' sacrifice. I also encouraged them to have a restful but safe holiday and we look forward to them returning on 26th April.

It has been a big fortnight in sport at KCC. Our Senior Rugby League team took all before them undefeated in The Hardy Shield. They defeated Mater Dei CC 44-6 in the final in front of a large crowd of supporters. Our Senior Girls Touch team went down in the final 4-6 to Mater Dei CC.  Further success has seen our Senior Girls Soccer team triumph for the first time in the Diocesan Soccer Carnival. A terrific effort.

After the holidays we farewell Ms Caitlin Fahey, who has been promoted to the position of Education Officer Teaching and Learning for Catholic Education Diocese of Bathurst. This is a very richly deserved achievement for Caitlin and we are very conscious of the loss this is to the College. That being said, it is great to see quality people from KCC recognised elsewhere. A recruitment process is under way for a 2 point RE Coordinator (Curriculum).

Ms. Stephanie Ferguson is expecting child no 2 soon. Best wishes to the family for the new arrival.. For the period she is away on leave we have appointed Ms Lauren Verdon as the Literacy Project teacher. We look forward to the great work she does.

Master Planning and the Block Grant Authority application are progressing well. Given the complexity of the site and the project planned, Catholic SChools NSW have asked CEDWW to delay the lodgement of the application until October. This won’t affect the timeline as contracts for building will still need to be signed by the end of 2023 for a 2024 start. What it does do is allow the architects more time to provide a more fulsome proposal with much of the design work complete by the October lodgement. CSNSW will work with the architect in the interim, which provides us with great confidence of a successful result.

The process around the new College uniform range  for 2023 onwards is progressing. We have collected a range of proposals from suppliers and will be moving to the design consultation phase early next term. More information will be forthcoming soon. Commercial arrangements need careful analysis before then.

In the meantime as we move into Winter uniform from the start of Term 2 the responsibility of all students to be in the correct uniform at the start of term and be within appropriate grooming standards as per policy needs to be emphasised to avoid any students needing to be dealt with over such matters at the start of term.

If there are concerns about cost and any families who may need financial assistance please make contact with the College via Mr Conn, Mrs Scutti or myself.

Students whose hair is outside expectations need to get it rectified before ANZAC Day so they don't return to school, with an issue that needs to be addressed.

Thank you to all families for your support of improving standards in the College.
