Leaders' & Specialists' News

Research has shown that parents who take an active role in their child’s school life increase their child’s ability to learn and have a positive effect on academic achievement (Dr Lance Emerson, 2012).

St Kevin’s is inviting parents to actively support student learning by becoming involved in a range of classroom activities and greatly appreciate the parents who assist and support our programs. Parent helpers are invited to volunteer their time between 9.00am and 11.00am. You may choose to come in daily, weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

Programs and activities may include:

  • Changing reading books
  • Listening to students read.
  • Participating in Reader’s Theatre texts
  • Assisting students with their writing
  • Playing literacy games
  • Helping students with their reading/numeracy activities
  • Various other tasks allocated by the classroom teacher.

All parent helpers will need to abide by the Child Safe Standards and volunteers will need to have a current Working with Children Check (volunteers).

Before parent helpers start assisting in the classroom, we will hold an induction session. This will happen next term.

This session will occur on Tuesday 3rd May at 10.00 am in the library.
