SOCCER

St Xavier's sent four Soccer teams to the Inverell Gala Day. The Junior St Xavier's Red Team made it through to the semi-finals. A big thanks to the super-coaches of the junior teams - Dave Grosser, Richard Grant and Pete Jensen. All four teams represented St Xavier's beautifully with lots of cheering and support for one another.

LEAGUE

On Friday the 24th of May two open league teams and an under ten side left the school before the crack of dawn on their way to Inverell for the Dio Gala Day. We arrived with plenty of time for a quick training session before the day began. The two open teams played well drilled opposition and learnt a great deal from them. Their defence ball handling skills improved as the day went on. The highlight of the day was a full contact training session in between games where both sides enjoyed tackling each other. It was the best tackling of the day.  Unfortunately they couldn't take the form into the matches and both sides were unlucky not to win a game all day, but had a lot of fun. The under tens had many who were new to the game. They had a steep learning curve as well and showed some determined defence. They were also unlucky when it came to the win column as it remained untroubled. At the end of the day, everyone represented the school with pride, had a go and consumed a load of sugar.

Thank you to Mr Cameron for helping out on the day.

NETBALL

Five netball  teams travelled to the Gala Day. The sportsmanship and team spirit shown by all the students is to be commended. All players worked really hard on the court, with quite a few girls having never played netball before. The improvement over the course of the day was amazing.

Mrs Jaeger made a comeback to the coaching circuit and came away with a win and bragging rights (better luck next year Mrs Jensen!)

A massive thanks to the following parents who stepped in to help coach, manage, and umpire on the day; Michelle Kingdom, Chris Jones, Ben Nicholls

Quirindi Horse Sport

St. Xavier's sent only 2 young riders to Quirindi Horse Sports, Jazmin Hobden (10 yrs) and Mathew Clifton (8yrs). Quirindi had record entries and competition was very tough. They rode extremely well and had a great time. Big congratulations to both Jazmin and Mathew on winning Reserve Champion Riders in their respective age groups.

NSW CPS Cross Country

Good luck to Sienna Edmunds, Amber Lindfield, Angus Hobson and Mikayla Straney who will travel to Eastern Creek  next Friday represent the Armidale Diocese at the NSW CPS Cross Country.

Due to extreme heat conditions in Darwin during November/December when the National Track and Field Championships are traditionally held, this year’s SSA event will be held from the 18-23 September 2019.

In order to select a NSW representative track & field team for this event, the NSWPSSA will be holding a special selection trial.

Participation at these trials will be via a formal application to NSWPSSA and athletes MUST compete at this event to achieve selection in the 2019 NSW representative team.

An entry fee will be applicable to successful athletes.

For more information and the entry form - CLICK HERE >>

NB: This trial is not for participation at the NSWPSSA State Athletics Championships held on 6 and 7 November 2019.  Students will need to qualify for these championships through their school and association representative pathway.
