7ACE

Community work

7 ACE have participated in 5 excursions over the past term, in preparation for the Lyndhurst frog pond in 2020. We have been fortunate enough for the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens to have facilitated all of these for us. Students have taken part in an Aboriginal Culture Program – learning about caring for country, run with a Boonwurrung traditional owner and in a couple of excursions to local wetlands, learning about ecosystems and citizen science activities. The students have learnt about and been involved in plant propagation and collected rubbish at the Cranbourne Wetlands Nature Conservation Reserve.

There are many photos of our students on the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens website for you to see. The students are now well prepared to set up the frog pond next year. Stay tuned for updates next year.

Personal Best

Last week, the students presented their Personal Best Projects to their parents and staff. The students were introduced to the idea in June and have been working of a project of their choice for the past 5 months. The project was designed to get the students to come up with a concept, to make a time line, make regular contributions to the project over the time and then reflect on the end result. Throughout the process, students developed their time management skills, resilience, perseverance and self-reflection skills. Students projects ranged from cook books to novels to a knitted scalf to a European travel guide from a family holiday to a piano game. The students put a huge amount of effort into this project and should be very proud of themselves.

Year 8 Camp

On Wednesday November 20th, Year 8's had the opportunity to go on Camp. The students who attended enjoyed 3 days of challenges, fun and games at The Summit (Trafalgar East).

When they returned, we asked them about their experience and what they enjoyed.  The most popular was the rock climbing wall and reaching the dizzy heights of the 'Window' but more importantly students felt they conquered fears and some who were nervous about going, were really glad they did!.  What great feedback, thanks to all teachers, staff and parents for the support and the students for participating.

Orientation for 2020 students

On Wednesday 4th December, we hosted a mini orientation to welcome some of our 2020 Grade 6 students coming from schools in fewer numbers.  It was an opportunity for teachers to meet the new students but more importantly, for the new students to meet each other and make new friends before the main orientation day which was held on Tuesday this week.

We welcomed more than 120 students from primary schools across Casey to the Orientation day on Tuesday 10th December.  Its a valuable day and gives families, students and staff another chance to meet each other, become familiar with home groups and build some new friendships.

Grade 6 students were able to  participate in a number of classroom activities as well as tabloid sports in the afternoon.  We hosted a sausage sizzle for our visitors at lunchtime finished off with icy-pols in the gym later.  It was a great start to Lyndhurst life for our 2020 Year 7 students and we're looking forward to seeing everyone again next year.

Consul General of India Visit

On Friday 6th December, Year seven students had a visit from Consul General of India Mr Raj Kumar. Students shared what they have learned in Hindi class this year  such as the language, culture, customs and celebrations. Mr Kumar gave us some insight into his job as Consul General of India and joined in with some fun lesson activities.
