Italian students in Year 5 and 6 started the term analysing the 1743 painting Il Banchetto di Cleopatra (The Banquet of Cleopatra) by Italian artist Tiepolo.

Students were fascinated to learn that it is a historical painting that depicts the moment where Cleopatra is about to drop a priceless pearl into a glass of vinegar in order to win a bet with Marc Antony. If you happen to be at the NGV International please try and check it out, the scale of the painting is very impressive at 2.5 x 3.5 metres.

Students were transformed into either Marc Antony, Cleopatra or a waiter/ waitress in order to act out a role-play designed to teach students how to order food in Italian. Much fun was had.
