Classroom Libraries

Towards the end of Term Three, the 5/6 classes undertook an audit of our classroom libraries. We looked at the gender, cultural and socioeconomic diversity, and who wasn't represented in the current books we have.

We soon discovered, that over 85% of our books' main characters were male. We also noticed that there was a lack of books highlighting all-abilities, a variety of cultures and different types of families.

Our aim to is to continue to build on our classroom libraries, so that we feel that every person is represented. Thanks to the 5/6s for contributing their ideas and using their voice, to decide what they wanted to see more of.
