SWIMMING

There is a buzz in the school this week among the Foundation, Year One and Two students as our Swimming Program at Swim and Survival has finally arrived! For the next 10 Thursdays, students in the junior years will participate in the 'Learn to Swim Program' and students will be educated about real world dangers in and around the water and how to deal with them. This is a great opportunity as unfortunately last year we were unable to complete our very important annual Swimming Program due to Covid restrictions.

We are definitely hoping that the Yr 3/4 Swimming Program will be going ahead but it won't be starting until Week 5 when the students are back at school full time. Of course, the fee will be adjusted accordingly.

Please find below some extra swimming information:

  • Swimming times are listed below to assist families to plan appointments, etc. but a reminder that parents are NOT able to watch the sessions

Session 1:11:30 – 12:15 M3 (Mr Mitchell) & D2(Ellie)

Session 2: 12:15 – 1:00 M4 (Mrs Gear) & D5 (Ms W)

Session 3 1:0 – 1:45 M1 (Jayke) & D1 (Rick)

Session 4: 1:45 – 2:30 M5 (Miss Jew) & M2 (Blair)

  • It is recommended that families do not place lunch orders for F -Yr2 students on Thursdays
  • Goggles are recommended and swimming caps are optional (children would need to be able to put on their own cap)
  • Children can wear their bathers under their uniform (not one-piece bathers which makes it hard to go to the toilet) but please remember to pack underwear to change in to. They also need to bring a towel in a separate bag that their wet things can go into after swimming. We are encouraging children to be as independent as possible, and therefore, it is recommended that they wear easy to manage clothing, i.e. no tights for girls.

FOOTY COLOURS DAY

On the last Thursday of Term Three, Miners Rest students took part in a Specialists Footy Colours Day. This took place during Remote Learning with some students completing the day onsite.

Each specialist area organised football themed activities for the day. For Physical Education, we were very fortunate to have Jason from the Western Bulldogs running a virtual football session for the online learners. For those students onsite, students rotated around five different football activities which were enthusiastically organised by senior students. This was a great opportunity for the older students to help the younger year levels with their skill development.

In STEM for Footy Colours Day, we looked at creating and designing. In Foundation to Year Two, students had fun designing their own football gurneys, as well as coming up with their own team names and colours. Whilst in Year 3/6, we had very innovative students designing their own football cards, as well as team gurneys. This helped students to think about a range of processes around the concept of design.
