We're Back!

It was great to see everyone back at school and we're looking forward to a more normal end of the year.

Maths

Over the past fortnight, we have finished our unit on probability and have begun a new unit for called Geometry. Students were given the opportunity to explore a program called Polypads where they played around with Tangrams. Tangrams are puzzles made up of a square cut into seven pieces that can be arranged to make various other shapes.

Literacy

In Literacy, our focus has been on revising and editing our writing. Both of these are so crucial to the writing process and make our writing better. Students have been practicing lots of editing. During the first two days back at school, we conducted an experiment and then had to write about it. The following day we had to revise and edit our work. When we are editing we are looking for spelling, punctuation, and grammar mistakes.

Below is one piece of text the students were asked to edit. There are 15 mistakes.

Can you find all 15?

Inquiry

Last week saw the students participate in a Scientific Investigation that looked at Physical Change. It began with a demonstration of how water has different properties when it changes temperature (hot water is less dense than cold water) and this can be shown by 'floating' hot water on top of cold water, or by comparing salt water and fresh water. Again, by floating the less dense fresh water on top of the more dense salt water (indicated by different food colouring).

The students were then asked to hypothesise which liquids were more or less dense and began to layer liquids like honey, detergent, water, oil and hand sanitiser to create a 'rainbow' tube.

Nest week, they'll be bringing their own experiment to school to share with their classmates. We can't wait to see what they can show us.
