1/2M

Welcome back to all the 1/2M students! The classroom has once again been filled with the laughter and the busy chatter of the students. It has been wonderful to see the students reconnecting with each other. We are looking forward to a great term of on-site learning.

Literacy

In literacy, the students have been practising writing simple sentences about picture prompts and in response to books we have read, such as 'The Tiger's Roar' by Alex Rance.  Writing a simple sentence must have a capital letter and appropriate end marks. The students have been writing sentences that include question sentences and exclamatory sentences. In reading, we have been practising our good reading behaviours when reading to self and reading to a partner.

Maths

We have been exploring fractions and understanding that a fraction represents a part of a whole, and the parts must be equal. Ice cream scoops, ten pin bowling and objects around the house were represented as fractions. In addition, we have been using the language 'out of' to describe the fraction.  The students created caterpillars out of kinder circles and then described the fraction of different colours in words, and some students also used the fraction symbol.  On Friday, the students were each given a small packet of M&Ms and using the same strategies from the previous lesson; they explained the fraction of each colour.
