5/6 B

Term 4 Week 5

It's been great to see the class back onsite over the past two weeks, albeit on a part time basis. Starting this week we'll be back full time with plenty to get through before the end of the year.

Literacy

In the coming weeks we will be integrating our Inquiry unit with our Writing. We will use our Change topic to cover a range of genres. We will continue to use the Seven Steps for successful writing to plan, draft, revise, edit and publish a variety of different writing pieces.

Maths

On returning to school our focus in Mathematics will shift to Number. Our next two units will focus on Fractions and Decimals and Algebra. We have completed our pre assessments to find out what the students know and will plan our activities around their knowledge and understanding.

Inquiry / RE

This term our Inquiry topic will be 'Change'. Our focus for our unit will be Civics and Citizenship. We will be learning about Parliament, the responsibilities of Local, State and Federal Governments, Rules and Laws, and Citizenship.  We started to immerse the students in our unit with some contentious statements. This was to help promote discussion and debate amongst the students and to also establish what they already know and what they might like to learn about in the coming weeks. Some of our contentious statements included: Rules are meant to be broken, Teenagers should be allowed to vote and Australia is a free country which means we can do what we like. Below the students used different colour sticky notes to indicate whether they agree, disagree or are unsure.

Interschool Sport

Unfortunately there will be no more interschool sport for the 2021 school year. With that in mind can we ask that all students begin returning their soccer uniforms over the coming weeks. It's important that all uniforms are washed and returned so they can be used next year by the year 5/6 students.

The Sacrament of Confirmation

We are excited to be be able to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation in Term 4 this year. It has been a long time coming! Information will be forwarded in the coming weeks for our celebration on Tuesday 23rd November @ 7:00pm
