The Student Leadership Conference – Report by Tyeisha and Jazmaine

Have you ever wondered what a leaders conference looks like? Well, it’s surprisingly fun! I mean it was really enjoyable for the Year 6 leaders of Numurkah Primary School when we went to the Mooroopna G.R.I.P (Generosity, Responsibility, Integrity and People) Leadership Conference.

At the conference, we learned about how to improve our leadership skills within the roles we have at school and about different ways to express and commit to our ideas. At the start of the conference we were handed booklet filled with different activities like word searches and code breaking tasks to do while we waited for the conference to start. There was also a day plan and other activates to do during the conference.

Some people got chosen to go up on the stage to play games and share work, including students from our school - Bealan, Tyeisha and Matthew. Bealan demonstrated his dancing, Tyeisha went up for a history quiz and Matthew shared answers to some of the tasks.

During the break times, our school leaders were playing tag on the oval - it was good to get up and stretch.

For one session we got into groups of three; our school groups included a group with Marli, Jazzy and Tyeisha, and the other boys made a group. In the trigroups, we talked about the different ways we could improve our school and our community and how we would raise money to do this. Our groups thought of some really interesting ideas.

Some of the most important things we learned about included what it means to be a leader, the importance of helping others before yourself in some situations, and how leaders are role models for our school and therefore we need to demonstrate and model our school values.
