Focus on Learning

Inclusion Support at St Joseph's
Students at St Joseph's Primary School enjoy a variety of learning experiences that are tailored to their individual needs. With this in mind, it is very important to get the support in place and nuture the journey of each student from the beginning.
In my role as Inclusion Support Teacher (IST), I help to connect families, our School staff, and Service Providers to form a team of skilled and helpful adults who assist in the development of the whole child. This team is a key component to the overall success of all students at St Joseph's and has a strong focus on collaboration.
One aspect of visible support given is the in-class Writing groups. These groups enable me to work with the classroom teacher to provide small group and/or 1:1 guidance, building on the individual abilities of the students. This support is consistent across all stages with at least 3 consecutive days of in-class skill development. As Mrs Hofman mentioned in last week's newsletter, teachers and students are keen to try new ways of teaching and learning to write. It is this safe and supportive environment that encourages writers to take risks and experiment with language devices and writing techniques.
If you are at all concerned about your child's progress, academically, socially or for any other reason - you are strongly encouraged to contact their teacher in the first instance. Your child's teacher knows each student very well and would be happy to work with you to address any concerns. As the IST at St Joseph's, I provide practical support in the classroom, access & prepare individualised resources and advise teachers and families of the most appropriate steps to take. If needed, I also seek further guidance from the CSO Subject Matter Expert - Inclusion, Mrs Pauline Hawkins.
