JSC Article of the week

'Written by Holly and Aleena'

On Monday this week, the grade 5/6's had their winter sports day.  Many students competed in netball, soccer, tee ball or AFL. Netball and tee ball were held at St Pauls's Anglican Grammar School.  Soccer and AFL were held at Drouin park.

On Thursday, a student from this school named Havanna Cochrane in grade 6 participated in the Regional Cross country event to represent our school. She ran and competed with other schools across the region.

This week Junior School Counsellors also sold hot chocolate at the breakfast club for a dollar each. Ms Marslin and Ms Burns helped with this event, and supervised the Junior School Counsellors in charge.  So remember to bring a  dollar to school to buy a premium hot chocolate from our hard working Junior school Counsellors.

Finally, this Friday was a wear it yellow day where you would wear yellow clothes to school.  We encouraged all students to wear yellow, Junior Schools Councillors made creative stuff for reconcilliation week.

Junior Sport

Term 2

At Trafalgar Primary School, our renewed focus on Sport and Physical Education has made this term an exciting one for our Junior Sport program.

To kick things off, with the invaluable support of AFL Victoria, all students from Foundation to Grade 1-2 have had the opportunity to participate in two AFL Primary Play clinics. These clinics are part of a curriculum-linked program designed by the AFL. They offer students of all ages, genders, and abilities the chance to learn the fundamental skills of Australian Football, while also fostering a lifelong connection to the game.

Next, in collaboration with the Trafalgar High School Vocational Major program, our Foundation to Grade 1-2 students dedicated a few weeks to learning the basics of soccer. Through engaging and game-based sessions, students focused on acquiring new skills and on learning the importance of staying active. We may have even discovered a number of future Socceroos and Matildas in the process!

Last week, we were fortunate to welcome Judy and Leanne from Netball Victoria to our school. Their visit introduced many of our students to the sensational game of netball. These sessions focused on familiarising students with the fundamental skills of netball while boosting their confidence, and encouraging enjoyment of physical activities.

This week our students participated in the first of four specially designed Tae Kwon Do sessions. These sessions, organized in partnership with the local branch of Rhee Tae Kwon Do, a traditional and non-competitive form of martial art, aim to encourage the development of various essential characteristics in all our students. These include promoting fitness and good health, teaching self-defence, cultivating self-control, self-discipline, and self-confidence, while also emphasising values such as integrity, perseverance, courtesy, and respect.

Cross Country

On Tuesday the 23rd of May, 14 students, from across Grades 3-6, represented Trafalgar Primary School at the West Gippsland Divisional Cross Country competition. Cross country is an all-weather, long-distance running event in which students run a race over natural terrain such as dirt or grass.

Our students demonstrated exceptional perseverance and determination as they ran over challenging terrain for a distance of either 1.75km or 3km. They pushed themselves to overcome personal boundaries and cheered on their teammates every step of the way. Congratulations to all the students who participated. You should be very proud of what you were able to achieve.

We would like to extend a special congratulations to Havana C, who placed in the top 10 students in her age group. As a result, Havana will progress to the Gippsland Regional Cross Country competition on Thursday the 1st of June. We wish her all the best as she attempts to qualify for the Victorian State Championship.

Winter Sport Competition

On Monday the 29th of May, our highly anticipated Winter Sports competition took place.

This event brings together Grade 5-6 students from across several local schools for a day of interschool matches in Tee Ball, Netball, Australian Football, and Soccer.

Our students embraced the spirit of friendly competition, representing our school with pride and sportsmanship.

The Tee Ball players impressed us with their remarkable batting, base running, and fielding abilities, while the Netball teams showcased their agility, precision passing, and sharp shooting skills. The Australian Football team showcased their kicking and marking skills, while the Soccer teams demonstrated their excellent dribbling, passing, and goal-scoring abilities.

We would like to congratulate all of our students who participated and showcased their talents on the day. You represented our school very well and you should all be very proud of your efforts. We encourage you all to continue developing your skills and wish you all the best at future sporting events.

A special congratulations goes to our Mixed Netball team, which placed 1st in their competition. As a result, they will progress through to the West Gippsland Divisional stage of interschool competition in the coming weeks. Further information about this event will be communicated as soon as it becomes available.

We would also like to acknowledge the efforts of our volunteer parent-coaches who provided invaluable guidance and support to our students during the event. The success of Winter Sports would not have been possible without your efforts.

We thank you very much for your contributions to this event.
