Assembly

Next week we will be holding a Morris Assembly in The Farrall Centre. The assembly will commence at 2.15pm on Monday afternoon. We welcome families to attend.

Year 5 - SASS 'Safe, Smart Kids' Educational Program - 26 and 30 May and 6 June

A program for Year 5 students will be run by the Sexual Assault Support Service (SASS) on Friday 26, Tuesday 30 May and Tuesday 6 June. The SASS 'Safe, Smart Kids' primary school student educational program aims to empower children to understand that their bodies are their own, equip them to make positive, ethical choices with regards to their intimate relationships, and ultimately to stop intimate partner violence and sexual harm from occurring within our communities. A thorough understanding of affirmative consent underpins all age appropriate content.

Year 3 Excursion - UTAS and Long Beach, Sandy Bay - Monday 29 May

Year 3 students are visiting the Geology Department at the University of Tasmania and Long Beach in Sandy Bay as part of their inquiry into Where we are in place and time. Students will visit the Geology Department to gain an understanding of the geology of Tasmania. We will learn how to identify rocks during an interactive gemstone hunt and explore the University's collection of rocks.  We will then travel to Long Beach, Sandy Bay. We will have lunch and play in the park. After lunch a university lecturer will take us to a volcanic site and talk about the geology of the area.  

 

We will depart school at 9.30am and return at 1.30pm. Students need to bring a packed lunch and drink bottle. No lunch orders on this day. Students will wear their school uniform and will need to bring a coat/ rain jacket and any medication they usually have at school. Parents are welcome to meet us at Long Beach, Sandy Bay during the lunch break and walk to the volcanic site from 11.30am - 1.00pm. You will also need to complete a Volunteer Registration Form

Free Dress Day - Wear it Yellow - Tuesday 30 May

Next week is National Reconciliation Week. On Tuesday 30 May the Morris Council is holding a free dress day and students are invited to wear yellow to support the Children’s Ground Organisation. A gold coin donation is welcomed and will be passed on to Children’s Ground.  

Year 4 Outdoor Education Excursion to Risdon Brook Dam - Thursday 1 June

On Thursday 1 June, Year 4 students will be going on an Outdoor Education excursion to Risdon Brook Dam as part of their Unit of Inquiry: Where We Are in Place and Time. Students will be exploring the concept of settlement and the nature of European arrival in Van Diemen's Land. 

 

We will depart school at 9.00am and return to school by 3.00pm. Students should wear sports uniform on this day, but will need to bring a warm jumper, their school jacket, beanie and a raincoat as it could be very cold. As we will be away from school for most of the day, students will need to bring a large packed lunch, snacks and drink from home. No lunch orders on this day. Personal medications such as asthma puffers will be needed also. Please ensure Operoo details are up to date.   

 

We would appreciate some Year 4 parent helpers to join us at Risdon Brook Dam from approximately 9.30am - 2.00pm. If you are free on that day and would be willing to help small groups, please contact your class teacher: Denise, Emily and/or Katie by Friday 26 May. You will also need to complete a Volunteer Registration Form

Kindergarten Excursion - Woodbridge Marine Discovery Centre - 1 and 2 June

The Kindergarten groups will be visiting the Marine Discovery Centre at Woodbridge School in Week 6. The Kinder Octopuses will visit on Thursday 1 June and the Kinder Platypuses on Friday 2 June. We will depart school at 9.00am and return around 2.30pm. We are looking forward to responding to the children’s keen interest in marine life and waterways. We will have opportunities to explore the aquarium gallery and touch tank room, as well as watch animals eat via the centre’s baited video camera. Please provide spare clothes and a packed lunch and drink bottle for your child to bring to the centre.  

 

We welcome parent helpers for this excursion and can have two helpers per class group. Due to the nature of the excursion, we request that younger siblings do not attend. Please speak to Heidi, Gina or Michelle if you would like to be a parent helper. You will also need to complete a Volunteer Registration Form

Physical Education lessons for Year 5 and 6 - Monday 5 June - Wednesday 5 July

During Weeks 7-11 PE lessons, all students in Years 5 and 6 will travel by bus to Kingborough Gymnastics Centre for gymnastics sessions. The bus will leave school at 12.00pm on their PE day and return by 2.00pm. Please note that in Week 7 only Year 5 will go and, due to the long weekend, in Week 8 only Year 6 will go. Absentees

If your child will be absent from school for the day please advise the Morris Office (phone: 6210 2228, or email: morrisadmin@friends.tas.edu.au ) and the classroom teacher before 9.00am. We appreciate your support in this process.
