Concert a success!

Last Monday night our music students performed their first concert in the library. It was great to see a full house in attendance with many parents, College staff and members in the community who came along to witness a great night of entertainment. Ensembles on show were the junior and intermediate concert bands. Our string and guitar ensembles. Rock bands, VCE music group, vocal students, and soloists. All our musicians did a great job playing. Some of our year 7 students performed solos for the first time in front of an audience. This takes a lot of courage. Our musicians are slowly gaining more experience with performance opportunities. I can assure you there will be many more concerts taking place throughout the year. With already 90 instrumental music students currently in the program and more enrolments taking place each week, music staff are overwhelmed with the enthusiasm and commitment, or young musicians have shown in such short time. Instrumental music staff Kimberley Gardiner, Ryan Lestrange and Donna Stemberger would like to congratulate all students who performed at the concert.

East Gippsland Music Festival

Students in the junior and intermediate concert bands and our string students have once again been invited to participate in the East Gippsland Music Festival held at Bairnsdale SC. The festival begins on Monday 19th June and concludes on Thursday 22nd June 2023.  Instrumental music students will be taking part in full day combined rehearsals with students from Bairnsdale SC, Orbost SC and their feeder Primary Schools. Rehearsals commence at 10.15am and conclude at 2pm each day. Our music students will depart the College at 9am and they will return by 3.15pm in time to take buses home. Students will be transported in a 21-seater bus driven by Boyle’s Bus Service. The highlight will be the Gala Concert. This will take place at Boucher Hall on the Thursday night which is located at Bairnsdale SC. The concert will feature all combined items rehearsed throughout the week. A letter with all the information including a permission form will be given to all students involved in the workshops this week.

Harmonix

Our new vocal group Harmonix run by Kate Steinmann is making great progress. This group is slowly building their repertoire. Plans are to soon visit a few kindergardens to showcase songs learnt. A reminder to all the students’ rehearsals take place every Wednesday at lunchtime in A3. This new group is open to all students in the College so why not come along and join in. Singing is fun! We look forward to hearing this new vocal ensemble at our next concert.

New Instruments

The Music department has recently purchased more instruments. It isn’t too late to play an instrument and join the program. We are looking for more flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, saxophone, and violin players to help balance our ensembles. Come along and have a chat and a trial. There could be an instrument that suits you. You can find me in the Art Building before school, at recess or during lunchtime.

On behalf of all instrumental music staff enjoy the rest of the term.
