It has been a busy time for careers this month. In Year 9 there was an opportunity for students to go to Gippsland TAFE for their ‘Taster Day’. Students selected a course that they are considering for future study and spent the day trying it out. This was an interesting and engaging way to gain an insight into career pathways that might be available to them. They have also recently been undertaking Morrisby assessments, which can help them to learn more about the career pathways that align with their skills and interests.

In year 10 the students have been excitedly preparing for Work Experience at the end of term. They have been writing resumes, searching, and contacting potential employers and completing their Safe at Work certificates.

Year 12 VCE students visited the Gippsland Tertiary Information Service event with the other secondary schools in the area. This was an opportunity for students to find out more about how to access tertiary education and funding and to learn about the application process. They were able to talk to representatives from many Universities who could give guidance to the courses available.  Our Careers Team will support students through the VTAC process in Term Three. We encourage all Year 12 students who are considering tertiary study to attend University Open Days, which mostly occur in the month of August.  It is important to get a feel for the campus you are considering and talk to their staff about what they have to offer.

Our Careers Expo is scheduled for  July 19th at the Maffra Memorial Hall. This is a very important event and  there will be important information sessions for students in Years 8, 9 and 10 about course options for next year.  Please keep this night free so that you can stay up to date with course offerings and careers/tertiary information.
