Student Leadership Team

Do It For Dolly Day is a day dedicated to bringing the community together, spreading kindness and uniting in helping break the silence around bullying. Student leaders helped to fulfill Dolly's Dream by promoting the day with blue ribbons, words of kindness and re-launching their 'gratitude posts' campaign. They also have plans to fundraise for this very important cause.

Push-Up Challenge – Jayde Parsons (School Captain)

We have decided that this year we want the school to participate in a mental health fundraising event known as the Push Up Challenge. You may have heard or remember doing this in previous years and we’re hoping to get the whole school involved.  The Push Up Challenge is an organisation that aims to raise awareness surrounding mental health and reduce stigma around mental illness as well as raise money to support foundations such as lifeline and movember.

In 2021 there were 3,144 deaths from suicide in Australia, which is why the Push Up Challenge organisation is aiming for individuals to do 3,144 push ups or an exercise of your choice to represent each person who died from suicide in 2021.

This year I have taken a larger role in the Push Up Challenge and I signed up to be the schools push up challenge ambassador. As an ambassador I am here to help increase the awareness of mental health in the school and get more people involved. There are ambassadors representing their own schools all over Australia and we are all working together to achieve the same goal.

We want students to join their House Team by following the links posted on the Compass Newsfeed. Students will need to register to join our school page (Maffra Secondary College Community) and then they can tally their push-ups throughout the Push Challenge, from the 1st June to the 22nd June. Our House Captains will organise some Push Up Challenges at lunchtime for all students to join in.

Anyone who would like to sponsor the Maffra Secondary College community can go to:https://www.thepushupchallenge.com.au/fundraisers/MaffraSecondaryCollege3629

Donations will help #pushforbetter mental health in Australia, through early intervention and prevention for depression, anxiety and suicide. Because one life lost is too many.

National Sorry Day

National Sorry Day is an event held annually in Australia on 26 May, commemorating the Stolen Generations. On this day we acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on how we can all share in the healing process. On Thursday 25th May, in our L2L classes, students created purple origami flowers to represent the native hibiscus flower, the significant flower linked with national sorry day. These origami flowers were then collected and displayed on boards to show our support for the survivors of Stolen Generations. Some of our Student Leaders presented these origami flower displays to local indigenous members at the National Sorry Day ceremony held at the aboriginal corporation, Ramahyuck on Friday 26th May.
