Sorry Day Celebrations

Dylan O'Shanassy

On Friday 26th May, Maffra’ s indigenous students and student leaders went to join Ramahyuck and participant in their Sorry Day smoking ceremony, some of the elders talked about growing up in the stolen generation. Students also had the chance to see indigenous art by a local artist. This was a good opportunity for our leaders to come up with ideas they would like to bring back to Maffra Secondary College.

The National Sorry Day flower is the purple hibiscus flower, on Thursday all students had to chance to make some paper flowers to represent the purple hibiscus, our student leaders then collected all the flowers they made and presented them to Ramahyuck as gift to show that Maffra Secondary is an ally for our indigenous community.
