Assistant Principal's News

Term 1, 2023

What a wonderful day we all had at our 2023 Athletics Carnival. Watching the individual performances on the day and the glimpses of superior sportsmanship was truly impressive. I would like to share 2 examples of some wonderful behaviour I witnessed during the day……

  • A student stopping mid race to help another runner who had fallen over. This meant that this student would finish in a lower position, but it was more important for him to make sure that his friend was OK.
  • A reassuring hug for a friend who did not receive a ribbon. I overheard this particular student congratulating their friend and saying ‘you ran so fast and I bet you will get a ribbon next year’.

It is moments like these that prove as a reminder that it is not always about the colour of the ribbon, or the place you finished in a race, but more the behaviour you exhibited and the way you treated those around you.

Mrs Carlo Stella and I have just completed over 60 Kindergarten enrolment interviews for 2024. When I interviewed the many existing families with a new child potentially coming to our school next year, I asked the question ‘What do you like about our school?’

One answer that I heard often was the acknowledgement of our wonderful tight-knit school community. This is something that I would agree with.

Here at St Francis Xavier, our community of students, teachers, parents and families is a very special one indeed. Our community provides for our students a sense of support and belonging, which in turn promotes social and emotional development as well as enhancing the learning environment.

The staff at St Francis Xavier work very hard to foster and promote a positive school culture and we love witnessing the lifelong connections that this brings on days like our carnival.

A big congratulations to all!

Kind Regards
