Principal's Message

From the Desk of Jodie Bishop - Term 2, Week 7

Yaama Maliyaa

What a great week last week was with the highlight being the Sustainability Expo at Quirindi Public School. Our children got to mix with over 500 children from ten local schools. It was great to see our children mixing with old friends, new friends and even family. We all learnt something new about looking after our environment and our local Aboriginal culture. Activities included looking for insects, photography, making bandarr (kangaroo) bracelets, sand painting, building bee hotels, planting gardens, flying drones just to name a few. It was great to see our students be ready, respectful and safe throughout the day.

Playtime

Our playground continues to be a happy, positive place where our students can eat and let out some energy. It is wonderful to see our students playing respectfully, encouraging and inviting others to join in. Handball, playing ‘kitchens’ playing in the Dinosaur Dig, soccer, having picnics, playing Duck, Duck Goose are just some of the activities are students do in their break times.

Special Visitors all the way from Holland!

Last Thursday Mrs Grosman and Margaret, family of Shania and Shantelle, came to visit us. Mrs Grosman is a school principal from Holland. Mrs Grosman and Margaret visited all of our classes, answering questions from our students that included:

  • Do the children play with toy dinosaurs?
  • Do the children wear clogs in Holland?
  • What is the weather like in Holland?
  • What is Mrs Grosman’s school like?

We learnt many new facts about Holland including that they have canals through the city, it can snow sometimes and the children learn to skate on ice and swim from an early age. Learning about different parts of our world is always a fascinating experience.

Ready, Respectful, Safe Learners

Luke was super proud to show me his writing. I thought his teacher Miss Overell had done it! Luke had worked hard to produce a lovely piece of writing.

Joe and Lillian wrote fantastic narratives about Mae and her pet dog. Lillian told me she had included an orientation, series of events and conclusion in her story.  Great work, Lillian and Joe!

Rose wrote a wonderful story also about Mae who tried to get a fox for a pet but it tried to bite her!

Tyler wrote a great narrative about a crocodile who caught a duck and his heart was pumping full of adrenaline!

Jackson’s story involved an auburn and black tiger on an adventure.

Piper’s story included a duck on an adventure as well. She also wrote a great narrative.

Jed was very proud to show me his sentence about going to the park.

Attendance - Every day matters!

Absences from School

Parents or carers of children of compulsory school age are responsible for ensuring their child attends school every day.

Sometimes your child may need to be absent from school. The school records these absences are justified or unjustified. Parents must provide an explanation for absences to the school within 7 days from the first day of any period of absence. Where an explanation has not been received within the 7-day timeframe, the absence is recorded as unjustified on the student’s record.

Justified reasons include:

  • Being sick or having an infectious condition that prevents them from attending school
  • Having an unavoidable medical appointment
  • Being required to attend a recognised religious holiday
  • Exceptional or urgent family circumstances like attending a funeral.

Examples of unjustified reasons include:

  • Going to get a haircut
  • Going to the shops to get shoes

Supporting positive school attendance is a shared responsibility - everyone has a role.
