School Council

School Council Report
It is hard to believe that the end of the year is almost upon us. The School Council held its final meeting for the year on Tuesday evening. This was also my last meeting as President, (however I will remain on council) as I will be employed by the Department of Education in 2020. Nicole MacDonald has kindly agreed to take over the Presidency role.
It is the time of year where we can look back and celebrate all that Monty PS has achieved in 2019. At the meeting, Janene spoke about her pride in the staff and their collective focus on improving student outcomes. This has come about through building teacher capacity – basically a lot of hard work by the staff through their Professional Development! In true Monty style, teachers are already looking to next year and to how they can continue to improve student outcomes. Kristie explained some of the programs and resources that staff will use in 2020 to further develop numeracy skills, as well as continuing to develop resilience within our students (including through The Resilience Project curriculum).
We have had a great year in terms of fundraising and getting things done around the school. The list includes landscaping and decking in the playground, shade sails and working bees that have kept the school looking great. Many of the improvements you see in the school grounds and buildings are thanks to the vision and foresight of Michael Smith. With their youngest moving to Year 7 next year, this is the end of 12 years at Monty PS. On behalf of School Council and the wider community, I’d like to thank Michael and Suzi for all that they have done over the many years. David Koolstra has also made some outstanding contributions over the last year and is a huge asset to School Council and our community in general – thank you David!
Schools like Monty Primary don’t just happen! Monty PS is a thriving learning community because of its people. We have wonderful students, families, teachers, staff, and leadership. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible next Tuesday at the Carols. It will be a wonderful night to celebrate our school.
