Year 12 Retreat (2019 cohort)

Our Year 11’s at both campuses, go on retreat from Wednesday, 21 November till Friday, 23 November at the beginning of Headstart.

Retreats give students unique opportunities to work on their personal integration of self. We educate for the growth of the whole human being, and believe that young people are strengthened and prepared for real life by taking some time to think about their interior lives, alongside any study or social activity. This is a source of wisdom that has always been a part of Catholic culture and that can provide students with assurance and direction, if they choose to explore it.

Retreat is a time to experience and hold the sacredness of all life, while reviewing one’s own real life experiences, including the mistakes and difficulties, with a view to coming to a personal understanding of how it can all be given a concerted direction for the better in the future. This process of ‘authenticating’ one’s life is supported by the wonderfully durable traditions of prayer and reflection found throughout the history of the Catholic church, firmly based on the Gospel belief in a better future for everyone and shown in the many stories in our scriptures about God’s care for us.

By means of the Retreat program it is intended that our students will:

  • Explore the ability human beings have of being able to do what is correct and maintaining the courage of convictions despite odds and pressures
  • Explore some of the pressures they can easily and unfairly place on others
  • Appreciate the uniqueness of each person and consequently avoid perceiving others through the basis of stereotyping
  • A further development of decision making skills
  • Development of a healthy self-esteem
  • Develop the skills of prayer
  • Use objective principles in their decision-making
  • Value the role of prayer in Christian decision-making
