Learning and Teaching News

Farewell from Ms Jorgensen

This week will be my final week at school for 2018. I am extremely fortunate to have been granted a Bursary to undertake a Study Tour of The Holy Lands for the next four weeks. Travelling with Dr Rosemary Carnavan, from Catholic Theological College, I will visit Jordan, Jerusalem, Turkey and Corinth. Not only will this be a personal spiritual renewal, but I hope also to gain a much deeper appreciation and understanding of the gospels as I tread in the footsteps and visit the landscape of our sacred text. I look forward to bringing back my learnings to the College in 2019.

I wish to thank Mr Michael Dalley, who has generously accepted the position of Acting Deputy Principal Learning and Teaching in my absence. Please contact Michael for any matters pertaining to teaching and learning.

In this week’s Sunday Gospel, Jesus spoke of the widow who gave so generously of all that she had. In our daily lives we are encouraged to look for the “widows” of our own time.

Who are the ones that give so generously of their time, talents and patience?

For me these are the unsung heroes amongst our support staff. The likes of Ms Rebecca Ramsdale who has spent countless hours arranging the 2019 timetable so as to maximise student choice wherever humanly possible. Rebecca has worked over and above to ensure we have a HEADSTART timetable which is as close to the 2019 reality as possible. Or Mrs Wendy Height , who has taken on the new role as registrar and quickly arranged outstanding Year 5 and Year 6 Information Evenings as well as  Enrolment Interviews and enquiries.

Or the ever cheerful Vanessa who reminds me to have my Newsletter article in on time!

These wonderful ladies are but a few examples of the many support staff, without whom our College would not run. I am once again eternally grateful for the patience and support that all of our staff have once again given me in 2018.

Accelerated Studies

This past week I have finalised most of the Accelerated applications for 2019. It is inspiring to read the letters and listen to the aspirations of our Year 9 and 10 students. Many have a clear plan for their future and I am confident that they will work hard to achieve this planned success.

 Gary Player tells us:

"The more I practice – The luckier I get."

I wish all of our Accelerated students the best of “luck “as they commence studies in Headstart.

HEADSTART

Semester 1, 2019 will commence for all students on Tuesday, 20 November. Students are expected to have pens, a book to write in and a fully charged Laptop to commence 2019 studies.  Every day matters at school so students are expected to attend all timetabled classes.

I would like to wish all of our students a fabulous start to the new academic year. This is an opportunity to reset goals and to achieve even more than this year.

Subject Changes

Year 11 and Year 12 students have a small window of opportunity to change classes. Students are asked to remain in class to try the selected subject for Tuesday and Wednesday of Headstart to at least try the subject they selected. If a change is still required students are asked to collect a subject change form from their House Leader. All signatures, including parent, must be completed and handed to the Front Office by 3.00 pm Monday, 26 November.

Changes cannot be guaranteed at this late stage and will be dependent on available numbers in classes and any clashes

Mrs Marlene Jorgensen

Deputy Principal - Learning and Teaching
