WELC Report

Message from the WELC Coordinator

- Ms. Carmela Santucci

Westall English Language Centre would like to welcome all our new students and their families. It has been a very busy start to the term with many students arriving to enrol in the English Language Program. Our enrolments include local and International full fee paying students. Our families have been quick to make sure students are in full school uniform and ready to start their studies at WELC.

We would like to welcome Ms Leena Sharma and Ms Emily Hughes to the WELC team of teachers. Ms Sharma and Ms Hughes have made a quick transition into the Language Centre and are keen to get to know the students and work with them to improve English language skills.

We also welcome back our returning students who have been of great assistance in helping the new students familiarise themselves with the Language Centre and the Westall environment.

On Friday 27th August, WELC students attended an Arts event, 'Salaka'. This was an African drumming incursion, where all students participated in learning about African drumming and its origins. The presenters were entertaining and very engaging. They managed to involve every student as well as the teachers.

Students participated in a cultural lesson, where they worked in teams to meet the challenge of identifying and recording the many cultures and languages currently represented in the Language Centre. Students also had their first taste of Vegemite and Tim Tams – iconic Australian foods. Needless to say the responses were varied.
