Year 6

Assistant Principal's Report

Term 1... that's a wrap!

It's hard to believe that Term 1 is coming to a close after 10 weeks of fabulous learning!   When I look back at what we, as a Senior School cohort have achieved, I am so proud of each and every one of our students.

We started our term on a positive note, with our first ever Senior Student Conference and embraced the idea of Electives with enthusiasm and a passion to learn new skills.   Challenging goals were set by all students, and we spoke about how to break down these goals into achievable chunks.

Some of our Student Leaders have taken part in both national and local Student Leadership forums and have had the opportunity to contribute to matters that concern young people in our community.

In our classrooms, the focus has been on personal writing and then moving on to persuasive writing. The standard of written pieces continues to amaze me, with the varied vocabulary and vivid descriptions consistently on show.

Setting up our Readers and Writers Workshops has been a school-wide commitment this year, and the Year 6 team has been the leading force behind this.  When we walk through our classrooms during literacy times, we see students actively engaged in literature - reading, discussing, analysing, critiquing, conducting book clubs, participating in literature circles... the list is endless!

Our Numeracy focus has been on consolidating knowledge of place value and the number system, including rounding and ordering whole numbers, learning about factors, multiples, composite numbers and prime numbers, as well as analysing and interpreting data displays.

Our inquiry topic for this term has centred on values and economics, with the main focus on looking at the factors influencing the ways people work and how they affect work now and in the future.

Thank you to all senior students, and families, for making Term 1 so successful and enjoyable.  I hope you all have a relaxing and safe Easter holiday break, with lots of precious family time!

Have a great holiday!
