Mindfulness in the Primary School

Mindfulness is a well-being practice that allows us to focus on the present moment instead of worrying about what has come before, and what will happen after. Research has shown that practicing mindfulness regularly has great health and well-being benefits, including increased focus and emotional regulation and decreased anxiety and stress.

At Lakeside College we have been practising mindfulness regularly in our classrooms. We practise with different kinds of meditations such as guided meditations and Christian meditations, as well as informal mindfulness. This helps students to experience the benefits of mindfulness, and assist them to develop a lifelong skill to manage their own feelings and well-being.

Students can also benefit from practising these strategies in different environments. Below is a Padlet link with resources to allow families to benefit from practising mindfulness at home, and to find out more about mindfulness and its health and well-being benefits! If you would like to find out more about the benefits for children and adults alike, please read the PDF included on the Padlet called Health Benefits of Being Mindful.

Anxiety in Youth

Anxiety disorders can start early in childhood or adolescence.

It may only have a moderate impact on a child’s ability to function in daily life and can therefore often remain undetected. If a child finds it extremely difficult to control their anxiety, then you should seek help or medical assistance.
