Rush House News

Mr Scott Minogue

I hope that everyone had an enjoyable Easter break and that the term has started well.

Year 7

The Year 7 Rush gentlemen have to be congratulated for completing their first term of secondary schooling in the positive way that they have. There has already been notable growth, and the group is quickly learning the expectations within the classroom and working to meet the demands set by the various teachers. Through conversations with older students and Pastoral Group teachers, the Year 7s have also established a presence in their various Pastoral Groups. It was good to see so many involved activities outside of the classroom last term (sports, clubs), and hopefully, this continues in Term 2 and beyond.

Rush House Lent Fundraising Dance – Year 7 and 8

This event was set to take place in Week 9 last term, but needed to be postponed to Term 3 (thanks to COVID-19!). The new date for the dance is Tuesday 9 August (Term 3, Week 5). This is the Ekka week - the Tuesday before the Wednesday public holiday. The tickets that have already been purchased will still be valid, and ticket holders will receive details closer to the date. Any refunds that are required, please contact events@marash.qld.edu.au

Year 12 Formal

The Year 12 formal was a success, and the Rush Seniors looked sharp and behaved respectfully and commensurate with the occasion. Some photos from the evening are below.

Academic

NAPLAN will take place from Tuesday to Friday of Week 4 and again on Monday and Tuesday of Week 5. The message was given by Rush Academic Captain – Sam Patterson at House Meeting was to sleep well, eat breakfast and do your personal best. This testing does provide important individual data and allows us to establish target points for improvement moving forward. Good luck to the Year 7 and 9 Rush students!

Exam block for Year 11 is scheduled for all of Week 5 and the Monday of Week 6. Last term, we discussed these six tips for effective study. Good luck Year 11 Rush gentlemen as you move into the final preparation stages for assessment.

We also discussed the ‘Curve of Forgetting’ and boys should be familiar with this.

Sporting Achievements

Last term, we congratulated Rush boys who achieved in their chosen sports.

Sean Bright (Year 10) was selected in Water Polo Australian Cadets Men’s Squad and competed in the U16 Water Polo National championships.

Bryce Franklin (Year 7) completed the Gold Coast 10km Fun Run on the weekend and finished 6thin his age category (12-15yrs). His goal was to run it in just under an hour which he made in 59mins!
