May our loving God, with Mary and Champagnat, walk with all members of the Marist family. Amen
Reflection: Tuesday 26 April, 2nd week of Easter. Acts 5: 17-26 and John 3: 16-21.
The everyday proverb, ‘It’s better to light a candle than curse the darkness’, summarises Jesus’ message to us today. The world was, and continues to be, filled with evil, hate, injustice and wrong. Yet Jesus does not come to condemn us for the ways we have used our freedom. He comes instead to light a candle - of truth, love, hope and courage. His death and resurrection bring salvation and new life from a seemingly hopeless situation. We are now free to believe in this light and to shine as ‘light of the world’ as well. It might not be easy; it takes courage to respond to evil and suffering without cursing or revenge. But it is the way that Jesus showed us. Today, what specific situation of darkness can we illuminate with God’s light?
Mary, our Good Mother, pray for us.
St. Marcellin Champagnat, pray for us.
St. Mary of the Cross, pray for us.
And may we always remember to pray for one another.
menCONNECT is a local Catholic ministry of men whose goals are to connect with each other and to connect with God. It is aimed to bring men together, to renew their faith in God and to encourage them in their roles as husbands, fathers, brothers etc.
Through our regular gatherings men are invited to explore what God would want for their lives and how they may come to experience the fullness of life that God wants for us all. We are in our eleventh year of operation and generally meet 4 to 5 times a year.
Although based in the Catholic parish of St John’s Wood/The Gap, menCONNECT seeks to reach beyond our parish boundary to other Catholic parishes and also to other Christian religions.
The next gathering will be held on 14 May at St Peter Chanel School (library room) 41 Chaprowe Road, The Gap, with the Br Damien Price as guest speaker. The day starts with a cooked breakfast and concludes by 1:00pm. The cost is $20.00. For further information or to RSVP please contact Mike on 0459 992 228 or the Parish Office 07 3300 6099

The College community gathered for an Anzac liturgy last Friday, 22 April. As a community, we commemorated, honoured and remembered the sacrifices made by so many for freedom. We also prayed for peace in our world. Mr McMahon led the liturgy, this is part of the introduction:
“While the Anzac tradition was born on the beaches and slopes of Gallipoli in the Dardanelles it helps us recall that deep sense we have as Australians that we can make something positive and life-enhancing out of adversity and failure.
Making something out of what appears to be futile and dreadful lies at the heart of our belief in Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, we are reminded of this in this Easter season.
In gathering in this first week of Easter we remember those who have fallen in war so that we might live in freedom.
We gather to remember that our God continually calls us to work for justice, love and peace.
We gather to celebrate the power of forgiveness.
We gather to be inspired by the courage of those – many of whom remain nameless – who have given their lives that we might live in freedom and prosperity.
We gather in prayer for the many people in our world who live in fear of war and in doing so we pray for peace.”
We thank all those involved in the Liturgy on Friday and the March on Monday.
