Junior School

Congratulations to all the year 7 and 8 students for a successful first term. Students are to be commended for their positive transition back to onsite learning and for their efforts and achievements throughout the term. It has been a rewarding term with many first moments for our Year 7 students.

Thank you to the students for their outstanding commitment to their learning. Teachers have sung the praises of our Junior School students who have shown respect, readiness to learn, and developed strong connections as a cohort. There is a big sense of pride, teaching a group of students who are interested in learning, showing kindness towards others and making the Junior School a great place to be. Thank you to each individual student for making this happen.

To our Year 7 students, well done for completing their first term in High School! From the start of the term, there was a positive energy from our Year 7 students who have adapted so well into High School routines. You are all experts now at using a combination lock! As the Term progressed, we saw our students embrace many opportunities from attending the Year 7 BBQ, making decorative geography cakes to sprinting past the finish line at Athletics Day.

It was wonderful to see so many of our Year 8 students getting involved at Athletics Day. The 100m sprint was a popular event with so many participants giving it their best. We certainly have some fast runners in our Year 8 cohort. It was lovely to see students getting involved.

Thank you to the families for your guidance and support at home. We know that the successes of our cohort come from the values that our families install at home. Over Term 2, we look forward to continuing our partnerships with families.

We want to wish all the students and families a wonderful, adventurous and safe term break. We look forward to making Term 2 another success.

Halogen Youth Conference

On Wednesday the 23rd of March, some student leaders from years 8-12 went to the Halogen Youth Conference. This ran for the whole school day and we were lucky enough to listen to four ‘celebrity’ guest speakers on their journey in leadership. The conference was held at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre and it was a really fun day full of learning and dancing! Below we have written one main point we took away from each guest speaker. We hope you enjoy!

Speaker One: Lachie Smart

Youngest person to fly solo around the world.

“The smallest acts of kindness can make a huge difference.”

Speaker Two: Guy Edmonds

Emmy Award-winning writer, director and actor

“Failure is R.A.D.”

R.A.D= Resilience, Acceptance and Determination

Speaker Three: Cate Campbell

Olympic Swimming Gold Medalist

“We are all people and we all start at the same place, if you want to achieve something, it’s hard work.”

Speaker Four: Damien Fleming

Famous Test Cricketer and Commentator

“Review where you are and where you are going.”

Wild Encounters in Year 7

Last Tuesday, our Year 7's took a walk on the wild side! Students enjoyed a one-hour action-packed educational workshop from Wild Action Zoo. Presented by a tertiary-educated biologist, students learned about and interacted with a variety of mammals, birds, amphibians, insects, and reptiles.

GRIP Youth Leadership Conference

The GRIP conference was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It was a conference about what we can do as students at high school to be able to work better and together on changes we can do around school. They gave us options on what we could improve on by going into different rooms where they were presenting those different learning options. We also got to play games such as who can shout the loudest or guessing the song by the crowd singing the lyrics. Overall, this conference was amazing and I could not be any more grateful for the opportunity they gave me.

Term 1 - That's a Wrap!

Well done, Year 7s - you have just completed your first term of high school. Let's celebrate this! Your Peer Leaders think you've done an awesome job settling into DSC, and to recognise this, they organised a series of games and activities in period 3 on Wednesday.
