During the re-entry to school after COVID back in 2020, we decided that we needed to hear from our Year 6 Student Leaders and ask them for their input and insights into the school community. This was conducted during the first part of lunch every second week on a Tuesday. This was an important and productive way to support, engage and listen to our students within the school.
This year we have continued our student voice focus and we have extended the members of these meetings to involve all of our Student Representative Council from Year 1 to Year 6.
All 14 students meet with Mrs McCarthy and Mr McManus every fortnight during their lunch break, in the meeting room upstairs of the main office building. Students are given the opportunity to voice concerns and bring ideas for future projects to the table for discussion.
All members are taught how to conduct a meeting, including the creation of an agenda, the co construction of meeting norms and the assigning of jobs or tasks to fellow members for completion before the next meeting.
So far this year our council have organised our Easter Egg Raffle and Easter Hat Parade in Term 1 and this term the students have voted and decided that their fundraising efforts would go towards supporting a local man - Nathan Stapleton with a “KICK FOR A CAUSE” Day where students can wear their team jersey and enter a kick, pass or shot game afternoon on Thursday the 23rd of June.
