Overview of Inter-school Gala Events

The bus was ready and full of excited chattering children. We were feeling emotions of both excitement and hesitation. As the bus slowed to a stop, kids ran out desperate to face the day.

It was windy and cloudy, but no one cared. The weather was not looking great. Everyone on our cricket team including us was eager to begin our match, NMPS Red vs NMPS Blue. It was a tough game; Chloe got winded, but she got back up, ready to continue. At the end of the match, we lost. Team North Melbourne B won. (We were in Team North Melbourne A). Everyone on Team A was disappointed, but we didn’t give up.

Our 2nd match was against St Margaret’s and they played a tough game, but we brought home the win, but only by 7 runs! Our 3rd match was against St Mary’s, a tougher team. We played hard, but they played harder. In the end, they won by around 20 runs. The final match was against Moonee Ponds West, everyone was exhausted, but we tried our hardest. Sadly, we lost.

On the tennis courts meanwhile, Team B played their 1st match and won 8-4. Their 2nd match was tricker as they lost 7-9. The 3rd match was easy according to Andrew, as they won 16-0! The 4th match was a bit trickier, but they still won. Their 5th match was when the competition became tougher, they lost 7-8. Their final match was easy, as they won by 4 points.

On the soccer fields, the boys soccer team won all three of their matches against Flemington, Holy Rosary, and Kensington. Great jobs boys! The girls, however, played against Flemington and won Holy Rosary and were so close to winning, but lost and they played against Kensington and sadly lost that too. Good job girls!

On our second cricket gala day, we played tougher teams like Ascot Vale, who was a very good cricket team and thrashed us. Tristan and Tanush played super well, hitting several balls flying far away. Tiger was an amazing bowler and Archer was an excellent wicketkeeper. Unfortunately, we lost all of our matches and we were disappointed, but it didn’t stop us from trying our hardest and having a great time. We all took as many runs as we could and were all super supportive of one other.

Inter school sports was fantastic!

Cricket

On Friday 18th and Monday 28th March, the NMPS Inter-School cricket teams set off to Fairbairn Park to compete against a handful of competitive local school teams. Even on the bus, l could feel the energy and excitement of the team build.

NMPS had two teams. All the cricketers had an awesome time, with three wins in total.

Everyone in the teams proudly wore their school t-shirts and represented NMPS to the best of their ability. As a house captain, l was extremely proud to see everyone giving it a go. It made me reflect and appreciate this awesome school, and together, our school community.

We had fun, but most importantly – we did our best. Something that we can all take away is to always try our best and have a great time!

Soccer

For the summer interschool sports, the soccer girls did very well in the first game, winning 3-0. We did very well, but we lost the next games.

On the second Gala Day, we played one friendly game and lost, but we drew the second game and made it to the playoffs. We played very well and won 4-0, finishing 4th in our group and 7th overall.

Tennis

The Tennis at the Gala Day was very fun. We got to verse many schools of multiple skill levels. We all showed good sportsmanship and we had a great day. When we were not playing, we cheered on our teammates. Eventually, after loads of hard work, we had made it into the finals.

At the finals, we got to play our games, which would determine the winner out of all the schools. We surprisingly won all four matches, placing us first on the leader board. It was a challenging game, but our practice paid off.

It was a great day that we would all never forget.
