From the EAL classroom

From Kimalee, EAL (English as an Additional Language) Teacher
This week in the EAL Classroom we have been talking about body parts. Students have completed some fantastic labelled drawings and discussed how we can keep our bodies healthy.
Here is some of the vocabulary we used:
Body Parts | ||||
ear | hair | fingers | thumb | shoulder |
head | eye | waist | hips | back |
nose | mouth | stomach | bottom | arm pit |
lips | teeth | tummy | thigh | elbow |
tongue | chin | legs | calf | chest |
cheek | eyebrow | knee | shin | arm |
forehead | face | ankle | foot | wrist |
eyelashes | neck | heel | toes | bellybutton |
Many of these words were not familiar to our EAL students, so maybe you can ask your child if they know these words. It is also great to start discussing internal body parts too, such as lungs, kidneys, and heart.
Some of the younger students role-played being veterinarians and checked the health of different body parts in our animal puppets. These role-plays gave students a great chance to use 'body parts' words. It also gave our students a good opportunity to ask and answer questions using full sentences.
