2021 Senior Leadership Introductions

Emily Vincent (Grevillea 2) and Andre DE VRIES (Grevillea 3) //

2021 Sports Prefects

Hi! Our names are Emily Vincent and Andre De Vries and we’re going to be your sports prefects for 2021! We’ve been in at SOC since year 7, born and raised Grevilleans and are super passionate about our sport! We have many ideas we would like to share; and welcome any of your ideas you would like to see for the sporting future.

I’m Emily and been playing netball for 7 years and have previously played tennis for 4 years! I have a keen interest in sport and barrack for Brisbane in the AFL (we nearly got there this year!). I’m in year 12 in 2021 and can’t wait to be able to get a few more alternate sports out there and get a whole bunch more participation!

I'm Andre and I’ve been playing soccer for 5 years and basketball for 3 year - both winter and summer seasons. I have also been to state in 400m as well as rugby and have had lots of other accomplishments along my journey. I am super-passionate about sport, so whenever I have the chance, I'm playing any type of physical activity. I go for the best team in the AFL, OBVIOUSLY Essendon; and, in the English premier league, I barrack for Man United (Manchester United). I’m in Year 11 in 2021 and want to see everyone giving every sporting chance their best shot.

We cannot wait to get started and we are looking forward to our new roles as Sports Prefects in 2021.

Ifa NINGRUM (Grevillea 2) // 2021 Performing Arts Prefect

Hello guys, gals, and non-binary pals. My name is Ifa. You may know me as the girl with way too many pins on her blazer, but I am also one of the Performing Arts Prefects for 2021. I am absolutely thrilled for being given the opportunity to lead the future generations of amazing, talented students (whether you're passionate about the Arts or not). My plans for 2021 mainly cover promoting the instrumental music programs, establishing a strong competition choir, and most importantly, seeking feedback on what YOU want to see in South Oakleigh.

I look forward to working with the 2021 leadership team. Feel free to chat with me if you have any queries, suggestions, or concerns!

Kaitlyn Steel (Acacia 6) // 2021 Performing Arts Prefect

Hi I’m Kaitlyn Steel and I am one of your Performing Arts Captain for 2021. I hope to help improve and make the school the best in music. Next year I hope to get more people involved in the music program and spread positivity within the community. From Kaitlyn.

Maple La (Grevillea 2) // 2021 Peer Support Mentor

Hello, my name is Maple, and I'm excited to be one of your Peer Support Mentors for 2021. As a Peer Support Leader this year, I learnt many new leadership skills which I hope to share with the next generation of leaders. In 2021, I plan to collaborate with others in order to produce another positive and smooth-running program. I'm looking forward to encouraging next year's peer support leaders to create innovative sessions to make the transitioning Year 7s feel as welcome as possible.

Annabelle Windsor (Waratah 2) // 2021 Peer Support Mentor

Hi, my name is Annabelle, and I'm really looking forward to being a 2021 Peer Support Mentor along with Amy and Maple. We will be helping the Year 10 Peer Support Leaders to assist the year 7s' transition into high school. As a Peer Support Leader this year, I created 2 sessions with Maple, and I can't wait to help the next year of peer support leaders to do the same. I'm also looking forward to getting to know the Year 7s and Peer Support Leaders, and to work together with them to create a fun year we won't forget.

Amy Vine (Banksia 2) // 2021 Peer Support Mentor

Hi, I’m Amy and I’m so excited to become a Peer Support Mentor 2021. I applied for the role of Peer Support Mentor because I wanted to see the opposite side to being a Peer Support Leader and help mentor others to make the 2021 Year 7s’ transition into high school less stressful and more valuable.

Havan JANI (Acacia 2) // 2021 Acacia House Captain

Dylan GEORGIADES (Grevillea 5) // 2021 Grevillea House Captain

I’ve been at this school for about 2 and a half years now, and to see how I’ve grown and matured over these years makes me grateful for my time here. With this being said, I’m just as grateful to be given house captain! Grevillea (particularly my mentor group) made being a new student so much easier, and has helped me develop as a student in South Oakleigh College. I’m honored to be given the opportunity to give back to my house and contribute to the schools community. With Alex Chapman on my side, Grevillea 2021 will thrive!

Alex CHAPMAN (Grevillea 2) // 2021 Grevillea House Captain

G’day, I am Alex Chapman and I am one half of the Grevillea house captains for 2021. I am a confident, goal-driven individual who strives to give 100% on everything I do. I want to turn Grevillea from a house into a family, as we will work together to aim for victory in all aspects. I want to lead and help the people of Grevillea to grow as people, and to change for the better. I am here to have fun, I will get the job done and with Dylan by my side, Grevillea will be Number 1.

Lilit DABAGYAN (Waratah 2) // 2021 Waratah House Captain

Hello,

My name is Lilit and I’m a Waratah House Captain in 2021. My whole life I was a very sporty person, hence can’t wait for my last school sporting events. I am here to support and encourage all of you to perform your best in school and its events. As 2021 will be my last year of high school, I want to make the most out of it. It will be a year like no other and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for Waratah.

Clayton North Primary School Leadership Session

Recently, some of our student leaders hosted a leadership session with Clayton North Primary School. We were able to share our experience as leaders while also giving Year 5 students feedback on their captaincy speeches which are soon to be presented to their cohort. Through this unusual year, we have missed some of our typical opportunities, but it was great to be able to experience something different like this. I particularly enjoyed seeing leadership from a primary school student’s perspective and liked hearing why they think they would make a good captain.

Year 7 Gardening

Over a period of two weeks this term, Year 7 classes participated in gardening activities in the grounds of our school. Several classes mulched, weeded and planted a variety of native grasses and shrubs along the Baker Street fence-line of the school. The students were enthusiastic and enjoyed being outdoors engaging in an activity which will enhance the school environment and help the students appreciate it.

I thank all students and teachers involved in the project; including, Chris Blattman and Damien Landini, Student Services, who co-ordinated class participation. A special “Thank you!” to Joyce Harris and Jacinta Marlborough as well, who lent their time and expertise assisting students. Ms Marlborough also spent time the following week with her Year 10 class finishing off the planting.

Many thanks to all involved and I hope everyone will enjoy watching the new garden grow.
