2020 College Captains Year 12 Assembly Speech

A: And so, we begin...

S: To the class of 2020: In 2015, we walked through those glass doors and we embarked on a new chapter in our lives.

A: On that day we felt anxious and excited. Were we going to make friends?  Are we going to fit in? Will we be able to keep up with the pressures that high school had in store for us?

S: Our 13-year-old selves aren’t so different to the people we are today. On this day all those emotions seem to have risen back up.  We’re leaving our small pond and are about to enter this big scary thing called the rest of our lives.

A:  It’s a scary thought to think that we will never have camp again, no more excursions, no more detentions and no more Year 12 room.

S:  Instead, we have work, uni, tafe and responsibilities to look forward to; but, more importantly, we will have the opportunity stand on our own two feet and build a path that we want to take.

A: This year has not been the year any of us were expecting, but it’s the year no one will ever forget. We haven't had our ideal Year 12 experience but it is definitely a unique one.

S: As Andrew and I look across the theatre we see more than just students, more than just peers and even more than just friends.

A:  We’ve had people leave and crazy ones who’ve joined this year level but we wouldn’t have our class any other way.

S: We have so much faith in what the future holds for each and every one of you and we can’t wait to hear about where life takes you next.

A: We want to thank everyone for the memories, all the laughs and moments shared together.

S: We also want to acknowledge all the tough times, the tears, and the breakdowns. Without getting too emotional this year level has truly formed a family and you will all stay in our hearts for ever.

A: This school has taught us many things: the values of high expectations, respect, responsibility, resilience, and teamwork are core principles that we will take with us for the rest of our lives.

S: To the rest of the school, I remember sitting in the gym in 2015 on the Year 12s last day. Their school captains were going on and on about how quickly this experience goes. I remember ignoring it and thinking it would be forever until I made it through high school.

A:  It’s scary to think that we are finally here, and how quickly it came. We urge you all to enjoy the time you have here, soak up all the laughter and memories while you can.  Today is the end of a journey.

S:  It has been a privilege to be your school captains in this crazy corona year.

A:  We’ve had the opportunity to do things we never thought we would.

S: To the class of 2020: Thank you for everything! Before we finish, we want to remind you all that no matter where you end up in the next 5, 10 or 20 years, remember the number one thing we hope for is for you all to be happy.  A:  We wish you all the best and would now like to welcome your College Principal Ms Koziaris to say her parting words.
