Classroom News - Year 5

                              Welcome to Year 5

We welcome all our students to Year 5.  A special welcome to our new student, Ella Love.  Everyone has settled in well and we are looking forward to a great year. 

                                Term Overview

Religion: The students have begun our first unit of work on The Reign of God: Reaching Out in Justice and then, Lent: A Time for Growth.

English:  The first literature unit will be based around the text, The Whales' Song by Dylan Sheldon and Gary Blythe. Over the next few weeks, we will be introducing the elements of VCOP and Big Write. 

Maths: Our first unit will focus on Time - 24hr, timetables and problems about elapsed time. Following this, we will move onto revising place value and using larger numbers for the 4 operations. 

Science: Today we began talking about Earth and Its Place in Space. The students are already keen to discover the answers to some of the ideas mentioned today.

PDHPE (Health): At this time of year we focus on positive mindsets and the different Zones of Regulation which affect our behaviour and our interactions with others. We then work through a unit, Managing Self and My relationships.

                        Classroom Equipment

Thank you to all the families for having the student's pencil cases stocked. We would also like each child to bring in some headphones or earbuds to use for particular activities and a box of tissues.
