FAREWELL YEAR 6

We will miss you!

YEAR 6 2020 OLYMPICS

15 Countries, 9 weeks, 12 Challenges -  only ONE winner!

After battling a tough year with COVID, we decided to host a Year 6 Olympics to fill in our last term of primary school. These games included a variety of team challenges, as well as individual challenges where students could display their skills in a range of sports and activities. Each country was led by our school captains and a class representative. To prepare for the Olympics, each team had to research their country and create a chant and have a team mascot. At the conclusion of the games, we hosted a concluding ceremony to announce our overall winner -  Greece!

Here are some reports from a variety of Year 6 students:

As many of you know, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics weren’t on this year, so the Year 6 teachers brought the games to us! There were 15 teams, 12 challenges and only 1 winner! Trivia was a blast! It was located in the hall and however many points you received in each round, were tallied and added to your overall score. Many teams got high 70’s, 80’s and even 90’s. My favourite moment throughout the whole experience would be being in a team with people I would probably never be with. The Olympics was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I absolutely loved it!  (Isabella Hanlon)

It was fun being able to work in a team for the Olympics. Everyone had different strengths, making our team stronger in different areas of the Olympics. My favourite moments were watching the Spelling Bee, and being in the finals for Soccer, Cross Country and Hula. (Erin Tickle)

My favourite part was the Community Service aspect because I was able to help someone with something. After I did the Community Service, I felt really happy.  (Maddie Zell)

Another thing that was really good was the teamwork. I found that in our team, the teamwork was there. We were constantly working together to try and win a place. The efforts when it came to things like cross country and pingpong were very good. One of my favourite moments was when we won flip ball and came third in trivia. (Isabelle Willis)

The Olympics was an amazing experience. The Spelling Bee was awesome, watching the competitors spell impossible words. Another favourite of mine was the Hula Hooping - it was incredible to watch the skills that some people have. (Charlotte Anderson)

Overall, my favourite part was working as a team doing new things with new people. I am grateful that everyone had a go and that the teachers gave us new opportunities each week. In the end, out of 15 countries, my country, South Africa, came 6th with a total of 185 points. (Sophie Myers)

The adrenaline streamed through me as I picked up the disc. The thoughts of me coming last took over my whole body and it was the only thing I was thinking about. It was like Batman music had started and all I could here was the year singing in unison ‘DUN DUN DUN’. The thought only made me more nervous but I couldn’t back out now.

“Three, two one...GO” Mr Unwin announced. The disc started circling my body - around and around and around. I realised I actually had a chance when other people’s hoops started dropping and before I knew it, I had come second in the Hula competition! (Grace Tickle)

We would like to thank Thorny’s Putt Putt for their generous donations of vouchers for our winning team!
