Teaching and Learning

Room 2

On Thursday 3rd September rooms 1, 2 and 3 were lucky enough to go on an excursion to The Adelaide Zoo. Squeals of delight could be heard as the bus slowly pulled away from school early in the morning. We all had such a fun day exploring our beautiful zoo. Playing on the adventure playground, hand feeding the goats and seeing the pandas were highlights of the day. Our students also had an education session focusing on Australian animals.

Thank you to all the parents and SSO’s who helped keep everyone together and safe on the day.

What are some water-resistant materials? Well if you don't know, ask any student in Rooms 1-6 and they would be able to tell you! Last week we did an investigation to decipher which materials would be water-resistant out of paddle pop sticks, crepe paper, paper and plastic. Students discovered that the pop sticks and plastic were water-resistant, whilst the crepe paper and paper were not water-resistant.

This information helped them to determine what materials they were going to collect to make an object that could be used outside. Students worked really well with an older buddy class to plan out their design and have a well thought-out plan as to what they were going to create, where it would be placed and how the materials were water-resistant. It will be exciting to see their final product once they have created it as their plans were fantastic and very detailed.

Thanks to Rooms 7, 12 and 14 who all helped to work with the younger students on their project plan. What great cooperation and collaboration!

PE News

We’re off to the big dance!

Last Monday, the boys traveled to Angaston FC to play St Mary MacKillop and Angaston Primary. We kicked off the day strongly by defeating a valiant Angaston side. They challenged us early on but the boys held strong and ended up 40 point victors. St Mary Mackillop challenged us again, as we knew they would, with approximately 12 points the difference at 3 quarter time. The boys dug deep which lead to Jack ‘The Postman’ (because he always delivers)  Giancaspro kicking the sealer with 1:30 left on the clock. It was a really pleasing performance in both games which gives the boys a lot of confidence leading into the grand final.

The grand final will be held at Thebarton Oval on Monday 21st September against Thiele Primary at 10am.

Big thank you’s to all the parents who transported students to and from the game and all that came up to support the team. Your support does not go unnoticed. I hope to see you all on Monday 21st to hopefully witness a grand final win.

And as always,GO WEST BEACH!!!
