'Be the reason someone smiles today!'
Students participated in their first WOW Group session in week 4 and enjoyed sharing the experience in their new groups! Our theme for this session was 'Being my Best Self!' Our focus was on getting to know each other, emotional literacy, and character strengths. Did you know that there are 24 character strengths? The older students explored many of these. I wonder what they identify as their character strengths. It would make for a fabulous dinnertime conversation.
In only a couple of weeks' time, students will participate in activities that honour their diversity of skills, attributes, personalities, cultures, and much more as we celebrate Harmony Day on Tuesday 21st March. Harmony Day is a celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect, and a sense of belonging for everyone.
A group of our SRC students will plan some activities and events for all to get involved.
We are encouraging all students to wear 'a touch of orange' on Tuesday 21st March in recognition of Harmony Day. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect.
Coming Soon to Wellbeing...
Over the next few weeks, a small library of specific wellbeing related picture story books and parent reference books will be set up to assist in managing situations as they arise at home. When we are open for borrowing I will let you know.
Until then, if you do require support with a well-being issue or concern please don't hesitate in contacting me.

The new 11 Victorian Child Safe Standards came into effect on Friday 1 July 2022.
In July 2021, the Victorian Government announced new Child Safe Standards (CSS) to further strengthen child safe environments and protect children from abuse.
From 1 July 2022, 11 new child safety standards have replaced the seven previous Child Safe Standards (and principles) which had been in place since 2016. For more information on these Standards, please visit: https://ccyp.vic.gov.au/child-safe-standards/the-11-child-safe-standards/

Parenting Programs
Parenting is the most important and challenging job in today’s rapidly changing world – but children and young people don’t come with a handbook. We help families to work together and create positive and long-lasting change for themselves and the community around them
ParentZone Pods - Parenting Podcasts
In late 2021, ParentZone launched a series of parenting podcasts called ParentZone Pods on sibling rivalry, dealing with anxiety, family meetings, getting your children to listen, how to stop yelling at your kids, and how to respond to kids’ behaviour. Due to the success of these podcasts, Anglicare has decided to create another series in 2022. So, watch this space for more helpful topics to aid in your parenting! Check out all ParentZone Pods here.
