News from IT

It has been a busy start to the year for College ICT.

One key project for 2023 has seen the rollout of new chromebooks to years 7 and 10.

There are two main reasons for this move - safety and security of the user and the assurance of each student having a current learning device each day of the school year.

It is a requirement for all year 7 and 10 students to have a school issued chromebook to support their learning at OCC. These are the only devices that students need to bring to school each day.

Each student in year 7 received a Lenovo 100e chromebook with the following specifications:

11.6”HD Panel, Intel N4500 1.1 GHz processor, 4GB of RAM and 32GB HDD.

To try and protect these devices they have all been fitted with a gumdrop snap-on case.

We decided on these particular cases as they are slimline and as such do not increase the size of the device so they can still fit easily into a school bag.

All students in Year 7 have now received their devices.

Each student in Year 10 has received a HP 14 G7 chromebook with the following specifications:

14”FHD Panel, N4500 1.1 GHz processor, 4GB of RAM and 32GB HDD.

These are also fitted with slimline gumdrop snap-on cases.

Most students in Year 10 have received these.

I would like to take the opportunity to remind all students that it is a necessity to have this device with them each day, in the case provided.

If they are charged each night prior to coming to school the next day they will easily last the day for use in classes.

Please be vigilant in making this a habit each night so that the device can be used the next day at school.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind students that these devices are their responsibility to look after. Any costs incurred due to loss or damage that occurs outside of school time will be borne by the family of the student. It is essential that the cases provided remain on the device at all times.

If damage occurs at school, and is found to be at no fault of the student who owns the device, it will be repaired by the school.

Remember that compass is our LMS and the key point of reference for anything school related from learning, announcements, forms and information to Finance support.

We also have a number of online learning accounts and subscriptions which have been setup for students to use to support access to content and learning across all KLAs.

Students have accounts to access the following:

  • Education Perfect (7-12)
  • Atomi (11-12) and Edrolo
  • Studiosity (7-12)
  • Hotmaths (7-10)
  • Onguard

Students also have access to digital copies of all textbooks as well as hard copies in class.

If you require any support at all please contact either myself OR our college ICT support Officer Mr Andrew McFarland.

Looking forward to a great year,

Finally, the student leaders announced the 2023 College theme ‘Dreams Work’

️to inspire all students to follow their dreams and aspirations by working hard in everything they do.
