Wellbeing

Vermont Secondary College

An update from the Wellbeing team....

There are some interesting and exciting projects that we are running this term in Wellbeing. Besides our individual support of students, the Wellbeing team has also started up several groups and clubs.

Paula from Wellbeing and Ms Jung from the Art department are currently running an Art Therapy group with some Year 9 students. This is designed to help students express themselves creatively via fun activities, such as mandala creation and sculpting. We will be running another group later in the year so stay tuned if you'd like to participate!

Bhagya Senatilaka will be running 5 sessions on improving coping skills for selected students. This program aims to cover a range of different coping strategies, such as mindfulness, defusion, thought challenging, using sensory tools, and distress tolerance skills.

The group size will be relatively small, with around 10 or so participants. There will be lots of 'icebreaker' activities/games to help students feel more comfortable. Our hope is that the group will be a supportive, safe place for all who attend. Students have been selected for this term but do let us know if you are interested in participating next term.

Alex Tiver, Andre Sabatino and Tori Adams are continuing to run our Queer Alliance each week. This is a lunchtime club that supports LGBTQI+ students and their allies. The activities range from social time and playing games, to exploring issues that queer students face, to running whole school activities to raise awareness. All students are welcome and anyone who is interested can message/see Alex Tiver for further details.
