Principal's Report

Vermont Secondary College

Thank You

I would like to sincerely thank the college community for their support over the last two weeks in rallying together to provide support for a family in need as well as supporting many of our students and families. It has really emphasised the strength of this local community and your ability to respond to tragic circumstances and provide empathy and strength for one another. Thank you on behalf of the college community and staff.

Year 7 Picnic

Thank you to the parents, students and staff who attended the Year 7 picnic on Friday the 24th of February. Weather conditions were extremely kind although a tad warm, but it was great to see so many faces in attendance. Thanks also to the instrumental students and staff for providing the evening’s entertainment as well as our two Program Managers, Laura and Minhtu, for organising the event.

VSC Division Championship Swimming

On Monday 6th March I was fortunate enough to support our students competing in the division swimming carnival held at the Oakleigh Recreation Centre. The competition is held against Mount Waverley SC, Highvale SC and Glen Waverley SC. Ashwood School also compete at the event. Every year it is an extremely tight contest between the schools.

This year with another extremely capable and enthusiastic group of swimmers Vermont Secondary College took out the Senior Division while being runners-up by a small margin in the Intermediate and Junior Division to Mount Waverley SC. As a result, when the points were tallied across the three divisions Vermont Secondary College SC was successful. Refer to the sports page in this newsletter for further details about the day!

Congratulations to all our swimmers and to the many Vermont students who won their events and will be competing at the Eastern Metropolitan Regional finals on Tuesday March 28th at Aquanation.

A big thank you to Amy Malander and Shaun Gillespie (Sports Coordinators) for all their planning leading up to the day and for their work with the team on the day. Thanks also to the staff that helped on the day - Mike Stevens, Lauren Ellard and Tuana Unal.

VSC Athletics Carnival

The annual VSC Athletics carnival will be held on Friday 17th March at the East Burwood Athletics Track. All students in Years 7 to 12 are expected to attend this whole school event. There are no classes running at school and there is no ‘sign out’ option for senior students. All students are expected to attend for the entire day.

It would be great to see all students compete in at least two events and do not forget to wear your house colours. Parents and guardians are invited to attend on the day to support their children. If you have any questions about the day then please contact one of our Sports Leader, Amy Malander or Sport Assistant, Shaun Gillespie.
