Class 2/3 Steiner Celebrating Learning

Class 2/3 Steiner began the term with our Deadly Days main lesson: “The Gift of the Fairies”. Here we explored a therapeutic, mythic story about two tribes who joined together as one, in order to sail over the seas on a quest that would ultimately save the world. The children worked on their retelling capacities and their ability to capture images from the story through a variety of artistic and written representations (including drawing, painting, clay modelling, beeswax figurines, form drawing, singing, verse, recorder playing and movement).

We are now well into our second main lesson of the year: “Stories from the Cradle of Civilisation” where we are connecting to the history, culture, and stories of the ancient Hebrew people. This main lesson runs for 3 weeks and began with the 6 days of Creation. The children have been refining their correct pencil grip, practicing their handwriting (starting their letters in the correct place in preparation for cursive), drawing with colour (rather than lines), and generally developing their felt sense of our daily and weekly rhythms as a newly formed class of engaged learners. In maths, we have been skip counting by 2’s and 5’s daily, consolidating our awareness of the months of the year and their relationship to the seasons, and exploring data collection with tally’s that then translate into bar graphs and pictograms.

The children have loved getting to know their new classmates and beginning to form as a cohesive and supportive group. They have demonstrated incredible focus, enthusiasm for learning, imagination and humour, and we are already producing an enormously high standard of work. Well done, 2/3 Steiner!
