Year 1/2–Celebrating Learning

Grades 1 and 2 mainstream spent the Deadly Days taking a deep dive into the meaning of each of our Deadly Values. We undertook a number of collaborative tasks and built classroom agreements. We read rich mentor texts to look at examples of each of our values and students used role play and game-based learning to show and practice each value. We made a class book for each value to keep in our classroom libraries.

Additionally, we focussed on getting to know each other, learning classroom routines, and help-seeking behaviours including “find my five”.

‘It was great making Deadly Value books because we got to make our own page!’

‘I really enjoyed acting out the Deadly Values - it was fun.’

‘I love unpacking seeds in writing because it brings you to these amazing ideas and you can just explode with ideas.’

“Gardening is fun, it’s like one of the most fun lessons, because you get to do things in gardening that you don’t ever get to do anywhere else.’

‘I love maths because you never know what number it’s going to be and you get to open new doors.’
