Class 5/6 Steiner–Celebrating Learning

Rocking around the start of the year.

This year has begun with less of a bang and more of an inward exploration to the ground beneath us. Students have learnt about the terrific and complex land below them in Geology, discovering information about the layers below the Earth’s crust. We have learnt about the building blocks of our world through stones such as granite, basalt, feldspar, quartz, limestone, coal, and many more.

Looking at crystal formations, the strata of mountains in our area, and discussions about places like Hanging Rock, The Organ Pipes, and The Twelve Apostles, to discover how these rocks form in the world we know. As we have illustrated and written about their findings, students have created Main Lesson work that reflects their thoughts on the subject. Some images and literal thoughts on the subject below.

Rosalie says “I think it was very fun, Eddie explained the concepts really well and there were lots of different sub-topics that were very fun. I am pleased that it wasn’t just rocks, and there was info about volcanoes as well.”.

Saul says “It was quite interesting to learn about how the world has gravity, a spinning iron and other elements shaped like a sphere spinning in space.”.

Gabe says “I liked how we learnt about how the layers of the world works. I also enjoyed learning about the rocks that make our crust, I also was particularly interested in glaciers.”.
Lily L says “Geology was a fun learning experience and it was structured very well. I loved learning about different rocks and how volcanoes work.”.

Winnie says “I like the geology Main Lesson, because I think it was very fun and interesting, as it was all about giant rocks and volcanoes. I liked how Eddie joked about suspicious underground liquorice (which I used as a tittle to one of our lessons), and I think it is lots of fun to work with Eddie.”.

Daisy says “I like how we got to learn about the earth and the wonders of our world and to learn new stuff even if we are still learning about it. I like how Eddie encourages us to keep going when we struggle.”.
