Year 1 Cockatoos and Kangaroos

The Year Ones have enjoyed an exciting start to the school year getting to know each other, building new friendships, settling into their new classrooms and enjoying a variety of learning experiences.

Last Tuesday, we celebrated Shrove Tuesday. We learnt that Shrove Tuesday is the last day before the beginning of Lent and is also known as Pancake Tuesday. We really enjoyed making pancakes from scratch with Mrs Zanetti and eating our pancakes together.

As part of our Health unit exploring emotions, we celebrated Valentine’s Day by creating ‘Love Rocks’. We used our thumb prints to ‘paint’ a heart on a card to add to our hand decorated ‘Love Rocks’. We were very proud of our love rocks and couldn’t wait to give them to our chosen Valentines.

In Talk for Writing we are learning how to write a recount. We are studying the text Rosie’s Walk. We really enjoyed starting our unit by going on a treasure hunt Rosie the Hen left for us. You should see the amazing drawings of foxes and hens we have done.

We just know that this year we will continue to have so much fun learning in Year 1!
