Year Advisers Report

Years 7, 9 & 11

Year 7 have had a great start to their exciting journey of high school here at Henry Kendall. I could see the nerves as they walked through the gate for the first time, dressed in their outstanding uniform, with their oversized bags on ready to begin their first day. These nerves shortly went away when they were reunited with their friends, found their classes and participated in the fun opportunities that Henry Kendall High School has to offer.

As expected, the first few weeks of this term have been very busy and there has been minor troubles along the way, including misreading the timetable wrong or getting lost on the way to class, however I have received so many positive reports from teachers across all subject areas saying how wonderful Year 7 have settled in and how eager they are to learn. I couldn’t be prouder of how they have settled in and the team environment they are creating within the year group.

On Monday, we held our first event of the year, the Henry Kendall High School swimming carnival. Year 7 students who attended, had a great day, entering many events and getting into the spirit of their representative house colour.

I would like to personally congratulate Halle Souter, Zane Medlin and Cooper Manser for excelling on the day and receiving the awards for age champions in their respective age groups.

Also coming up this term, we have Year 7 camp in Week 10 as well as having the opportunity to partake in the RIOT training course in Week 8 this term.

A reminder to all students to remember to uphold our year group’s five key principles:

  • Responsibility
  • Resilience
  • Teamwork
  • Gratitude
  • Empathy.

I am looking forward to getting to know the students better and I am excited for the adventures yet to come.

Amazing start Year 7!!

New electives, new choices and new responsibilities are what Year 9 can expect from this coming year. It is amazing to see how much they have grown over the course of the holidays.

It has been a relatively easy transition for Year 9, who have already gotten into the swing of life at high school, but with the added experience of classes no longer being filled with the same students in every subject.

Looking forward to the year ahead!

Welcome to 2023 and to Stage 6. I am beyond proud for how Year 11 have settled into the new year and their final 2 years of schooling. Walking in on day one seeing all of Year 11 in the fresh yellow shirts was amazing. Year 11 need to remember as senior students it is now up to them to be leaders in the school, particularly by wearing correct school uniform.

The students have quickly settled in and are enjoying participating in courses they have chosen. Year 11 received their assessment documents this week. It is very important for students to be aware of all assessment requirements and plan out their course assessments to ensure they can remain organised. Whilst every effort is made to space out tasks, inevitably there will be times where the load will be very heavy.

Planning and being organised will help students to cope with the demands of senior study. Balance is also very important:

  • Students should include physical activity and socialising in their schedules.
  • Part time work should be limited to 10-12 hours per week.
  • Student assistance will be available on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in the library. I would encourage all of the students to avail themselves of this great resource.

Any issues or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me.

On Monday 13 February, HKHS held its annual Swimming Carnival. It was a great day with a number of Year 11's participating in many events held throughout the day. Thank you to the students who attended the day and thank you to the students who participated. Your school spirit was in true form. A special congratulations to Millie Potter for winning the hotly contested 17+ Girl’s Age Champion for 2023. Well done and good luck to the students who have made zone swimming.

I would like to give a huge congratulations to Jessica Hunter for receiving a Blue Endorsement Award from Sydney North Schools Sports Association for Volleyball. Jessica has represented the school, NSW and Australia in multiple Volleyball events since 2019. This award is very prestigious and well deserved by Jessica. Congratulations!

I encourage Year 11 to continue to work hard and remember to try your best and be kind to yourself and others.
