Sport got off to a quick start this year – Year 7 began their first high school sport and we also held our 53rd Annual Swimming Carnival at Gosford Pools on Monday 13 February. Despite a rainy start to the day, students turned out in excellent numbers and house spirit. All students  participated with enthusiasm and showed their perseverance in completing events.

The points count was close for most of the day – Corumben started to take the lead after what was an exceptional dance-off. Narara strayed from their usual song choice, opting for a dance party instead of the usual numbers.

To finish off a great day, was the much-anticipated staff versus Year 12 student relay. What better way to see out Year 12 then with a loss to the staff? The first leg began with Mr Ardley versing the ever-present Alexander McGavin, who were neck and neck until Alex crept forward at the 40 metre line. The race stayed very close, with Year Adviser Miss Fitzgerald showing the students how it is done.

A special mention must go to Mr Jones, who put the staff in a slight lead due to some outstanding swimming. To finish the race, Mr Mellish was kind enough to wait for Benjamin Hunter to dive in. Jumping in at the same time, the two remained locked with no split in sight. With 20 metres to go, Ben started losing steam and the staff stormed home to yet another win.

Overall, the carnival was a great success and all students should be commended on their behaviour, participation and enthusiasm displayed. Congratulations to Corumben on being awarded the winning house for the carnival.
