Special Education

A big welcome to our new students. We have 14 new students so it’s a big welcome to, Kellan, Rheed, Chloe, Melissa, Luca, Emily, Mekah, Kyden, Jaxx, Kaide, Erik, Noah, Kobe and Mitchell.  We also welcome Mrs Towns to our Special Education staff.

Our new students are quickly adjusting to high school life and their new friends are helping them settle in by inviting them to join them in their play. The swimming carnival was a huge success with last years swimming program enabling a lot of our students compete for the first time. The skills learnt in the swimming scheme were also put into practise in the indoor pool activities for our students who were not up to competing in the mainstream event.

Students from the Special Education Centre have been having great fun cycling for Tuesday afternoon sport. A few years ago, we received a donation of three adult sized tricycles and one recumbent bike which cater well for the needs of our students. The students are developing their riding skills and increasing their confidence every week. They are also learning important social skills of taking turns and improving their safety awareness.

The Spec Ed 7/8 class are exploring the topic - 'Europe in the Middle Ages.' The students will be discussing all aspects of life in this time period. In the past week we have explored the kinds of food, drinks and clothing worn. The students are very engaged and enjoying exploring another time period. Well done, 7/8's.

Years 7 and 8 are learning about renewable and non-renewable resources on earth. Investigating alternative ways of generating electricity that is renewable for example solar power. The students have investigated how a flat panel collector works by placing containers of cold water on a flat panel collector and measuring the temperature throughout the day.

Purple and Green Groups

In Personal Development and Health, the Purple and Green Group are learning about safe behaviours to promote healthy, safe, and active lifestyles in a range of contexts for example being a safe passenger. The Purple Group students wrote the lyrics to the song “This is the way we wear our seatbelt.” The Green Group love singing the song the Purple Group composed and learning about safety through music and movement.
