Welcome back to the 2023 school year and we hope everyone is ready for a busy Term 1. The HSIE/Language team includes Mr Mark Macdonald (Head Teacher), Mr David Ardley, Miss Katey Ellis (Language), Mr Mitchell Herring, Mrs Julia Kostalas, Mrs Danielle Le Page, Miss Cassandra McLennan, Mrs Chloe Mitchell, Mr Judd Newtown, Mrs Raegan Travica and Mrs Lisa Wright.
Year 7 students have commenced their study of Geography via the study of Landscapes and Landforms. Students will investigate the forces that have shaped the Earth, including the movement of tectonic plates, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis. They will continue their Geography journey with the study of Changing Places in Term Two. In Semester Two, we will begin our study of History.
Year 8 have commenced their study of Water in the World, exploring issues such as water quality and scarcity. Students will need to look at possible solutions to water issues at local, national and global scale.
Our Stage 4 students are reminded that their equipment is required for each lesson. Students should have their A4 book, pens, lead pencil, coloured pencils, glue, etc.
Our fieldwork program has already begun in 2023. A group of Year 10, 11 and 12 Geography students spent four days exploring Mount Kosciuszko National Park from 14-17 February. A huge thanks to Mr Newton, Miss McLennan and Mr Herring (Senior) for giving up their time and making the exploration of this unique Australian environment a rewarding experience for all students. A detailed report about the trip will follow.
Year 10 History students will be visiting the Sydney Jewish Museum on Monday 27 March. This will support their understanding of the topic Genocide and the Holocaust. The opportunity to view the museum’s collection, learn from experts in the field of Holocaust Studies and hear the reflections of survivors and their families, should not be missed.
All year groups have received a copy of their subject scope and sequence, as well as assessment information, for 2023. A reminder that our assessment schedules can also be found via the Henry Kendall High School website.
Looking forward to an amazing year of learning!
