Leaving Ormond?? Know of New Enrolments?

If you are planning to move from Ormond at the end of this year could you please contact the Office so that we can complete the 2014 class organization. Please advise the school in writing.  Additionally, if you know of families who intend to enrol but have not yet done so please encourage them to contact the Office as well.

Transition Programs

At Ormond we are very keen to ensure that students have a smooth transition from one year level to the next. We achieve this by conducting an extended transition program throughout November and December. The program kicks off next Thursday, 14th of November with the whole school spending time in next year’s classes. While the class groups have not yet been set it is worthwhile for students to be introduced to some elements of the educational program that they are likely to experience in 2014. The program will run from 9:15 to 10:30 am. Other dates for transition activities are 20th and 29th of November and the 10th and 19th of December

Prep Transition

The first of the Prep Transition activities will take place on Thursday 14th of November. The 2014 Preps will have their first classroom experience while their parents participate in an Information Session in the Hall.

Brick Fundraiser

This initiative has so far proven to be a popular one with many Ormond families, past and present students and staff so far purchasing a special commemorative brick to be included in the Rebound Wall.

All those that purchase a brick will have their name embossed onto the surface of the brick. The price of each brick is $25. The family option is $50 and is for two bricks next to each other, please ensure you complete both grids areas for Brick #1 and Brick #2 if purchasing the family option. Completed Commemorative Brick Fundraiser Order Forms with the appropriate payment to the Office before the closing date of 15th of November.

Successful Walk-a-Thon

On Thursday, 7th of November Ormond Primary School conducted a Walk-a-thon to raise money for a school in Mombasa, Kenya. The money raised will help them buy new text books for their school. Four hundred and two Ormond students from Prep to Year 6 walked for half an hour. Prep and Year 1 walked around the oval.  Year 2 to 6 students walked around the perimeter of the school. Student organizers Chloe, Maya and Nikia participated along with their school friends to encourage them along the way. Nikia felt that the Walkathon was a big success and she thinks the students in Kenya will be very pleased. Ormond Primary School wishes the Kenyan students success in their Swim-a-thon tomorrow. The Kenyan students and volunteers are aiming to complete 295 laps of their local swimming pool.

Class Groupings 2014

Each year the school leadership makes the decisions about class placement for all students. These decisions are based on

  • Teacher recommendations
  • Students’ friendship lists
  • Indications by parents of the social and academic issues affecting their children

Parents may like to write or email me about any concerns that they have about their child’s social and academic needs. Parents should not feel that it is compulsory to write to me. As an indication I generally receive 25 – 30 letters at this time each year. The period for correspondence about these issues will close on Wednesday, 13th of November.

 * Please do not make requests for particular teachers as teacher allocations are unknown at this early stage of planning.
